Former Black Stars player and General Secretary of the Professional Footballers Association of Ghana, Anthony Baffoe has won the prestigious Sports Personality of the Year,  at this year's Sports Writers Association of Ghana(SWAG) Awards held on Saturday night.

He beat tough competition from boxer Emmanuel Tagoe to be crowned the ultimate winner on the night.

Mr. Baffoe walked away with a glittering trophy, a plaque and the bragging right as the best sports personality for the year.

The ex-Ghanaian defender has been tremendous in his role as FIFA Coordinator and helped with the organisation of several competitions including the World Cup and UEFA Champions league.

His role in ensuring that professional footballers are insured and could live a comfortable life after football has also been recommended by all.

President Nana Akufo-Addo who presented the award, congratulated him on the achievement and urged him to continue to do more to help the growth of football in the country.

Other awards on the night included, Male Footballer of the Year-Solomon Asante, Premier League Player of the Year- Richard Ofori, Female Footballer of the Year- Priscilla Adubea, National Team of the Year-Black Cranes, Professional Boxer of the Year- Emmanuel Tagoe, Association Chairman of the Year- Ben Nunoo Mensah, Football Referee of the Year-Roger Banor, Coach of the Year-Paul Dogboe, Male Football Club of the Year-Wa All Stars, Female Athlete of the Year-Nadia Eke.

Others werr , Male Athlete of the Year-John Ampomah,Amateur Boxer of the Year, Abdul Wahid Omar, Dedication and Valour- Godwin Attram and Dan Quaye, Most Promising Star of the Year- Sandra Owusu-Ansah, Hockey(Female)-Rachel Bamfoe,Hockey(Male)-Emmanuel Ankomah , Weightlifter of the Year- Christian Amoah, Discovery of the Year- Richard Osafo, Pare-Athlete of the Year-Yussif Amadu, Female Club of the Year-Ampem Darkoa Ladies, Table Tennis Player of the Year- Derrick Abrefa.

The rest were, Kick Boxer of the Year-Lawrence Nyanyo Nmai, Special Awards- Mamah Mustapha, Ruth Baffoe and Isaac Dogboe with corporate awards going to McDan Group of Companies and Twellium Industries Ghana Limited.
