Nigerian striker Mawoyeka Killed by Heart Attack During Match

Turkish football club Sarayköyspor has announced that the Nigerian player Ekundayo 'Eko' Mawoyeka died from a heart attack during a match against Yetaganspor on Sunday.

The club released a statement on its Twitter confirming that Mawoyeka died after collapsing in the 35th minute.

“We are deeply saddened that Ekundayo Ebenezer Mawoyeka, a Nigerian citizen and football player of Sarayköyspor of Denizli in Turkey, has passed away yesterday during a match.

We convey our condolences to his family. May he rest in peace,” said the statement.

The 23-year-old scored in the game in which he died and the club further showed its gratitude for the goal.

“You gave us your last goal before we left, we loved you very much. Your memories, that smiling face will always live, you will never forget Eko. We'll have you living there pretty much,” the club said in their tribute to the player on its Facebook page.
