Former Black Stars captain Nii Odartey Lamptey says Black Stars and Atletico Madrid midfielder Thomas Partey has all the qualities to captain the Black Stars.

There have been several talks of who should lead the Black Stars as captain as current skipper Asamoah Gyan may bow out of the team after the 2019 AFCON.

Odartey Lamptey who played in a Black Star team which had the likes of Abedi Pele as captain also got the opportunity to captain the team himself.

"For now I think Thomas Partey can be the next Captain, the way he plays and even conducts himself on the pitch shows he has leadership qualities"

'As time goes I won't be surprised Thomas Partey leads the team," he said in an interview on Asempa FM

He also added that a captain must possess three key qualities which are your relationship with the entire playing body, the relationship between the Captain and the management and set good examples in camp too.

The Black Stars Captaincy has been a topic that never seems to go away.

Asamoah Gyan recently slammed broadcaster Nana Aba Anamoah who suggested that Gyan should be stripped off the captaincy and it should be handed to his deputy Andre Ayew.

This has caused a divided opinion as a section of the Ghanaians think deputy Black Stars Captain Andre Ayew should be made substantive captain while others also see Gyan as the right person to lead the team.

Odartey Lamptey first began to attract global attention in 1991 he led Ghana to win the 1991 FIFA U-17 World Championship with the Black Starlets after playing in the 1989 version as a 15-year-old. He won the FIFA Best Player of the tournament.
