Portugal Captain, Cristiano Ronaldo was forced off in tears 25 minutes into their Euro 2016 grand finale clash with host nation, France but that could not stop his team from winning.
The Selecao, against all odds, prevailed against the much fancied French to secure their first major international trophy at the Stade de France in Paris on Sunday.
Ronaldo, after his injury,  came back from the dressing room limping  and assumed a role on the touchline assisting his coach, Fernando Santos, to issue instructions.
Substitute Eder, from 25 yards shrugged off a challenge from Koscielny before sending a low effort which beat France keeper Hugo Lloris to give Portugal a 1-0 lead four minutes into the second half of extra time and with a little over 10 minutes to go, they held on to record a famous victory.Â
The French side inspired by Antoine Griezmann,  the tournament’s leading scorer with six goals, were the leading scorers in the tournament with 13 goals but failed to beat Portugal's keeper, Rui Patricio.
Portugal's triumph surprises many because they placed third behind  Hungary,  and Iceland after three draws in the group stage and only managed to win only one match within 90 minutes, the 2-0 win against Wales in the semi-finals.
