Thierry Henry is held up as football royalty in north London but the Arsenal great is now just that in Nigeria after attending a fan event in Lagos.

The former France international was donned 'Igwe' [king] of football on Sunday in front of thousands of adoring fans.

The Belgium assistant manager wore an Igbo royalty garb at the celebration put on by Guinness Nigeria.

The term is nothing new when it comes to Henry in that part of the world as Nigerians would routinely call him 'Igwe' when he scored.

The Gunners now hold a huge following in the African country with Alex Iwobi their latest idol.

Though the Super Eagles star has a lot to do to be held in the same regard as Henry.

A pundit with Sky Sports now, Henry will be at Russia 2018 to help the Red Devils break through as an international force spearheaded by Chelsea's Eden Hazard.

The vacant managerial position with Wales, following Chris Coleman's departure to Sunderland, has led Henry to be linked with making the first step as a No.1 in senior football.
