Today June 17, 2018, marks exactly 12 years as the senior national team of Ghana, the Black Stars won their first ever World Cup match with a 2-0 victory over the Czech Republic in the 2006 World Cup.

Ghana had earlier lost their opening game to Italy by 2-0 with Czech also winning their first game 3-0 against the United States of America.

Ghana had to win their second game at all cost and right did so.

Asamoah Gyan scored the first World Cup goal for GhanaAs early as the second minute Ghana took the lead through Asamoah Gyan after receiving a through pass from the captain of the side Stephen Appiah.

That was the country's first ever World Cup goal scored by current top scorer in the national team Asamoah Gyan.
Ghana dominated the game and had several chances to put the game to bed but failed.

Gyan missed a penalty in the second half but Sulley Muntari added the second which sealed the victory for Ghana.
