President of the Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) Ahmad Ahmad has explained why CAF did not include the category for African based Footballer of the year.

The CAF President today at the Accra International Conference Centre during a press briefing explained their decision to exclude the category to the media.

"The best is always the best, we don't have two best,"

"The players based in Africa are also capable of winning the award for the best African Footballer so there is no need to categorize them,"He added.

Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper Dennis Onyango will now be the last player to win that award after helping Sundowns to the African Champions League title and taking Uganda to the Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) finals for the first time in almost four decades in 2017.

The CAF Awards will come off on the 4th of January at the Accra International Conference Centre.Â
