The Circle Interchange Fountain, the reason behind the highly acclaimed “Dubai in Ghana” has gone dark on Thursday night.

When Primenewsghana visited the site at around 7pm in the evening, the colourful fountain was virtually invisible and the entire area looks dark. Best description will be a cemetery.

Attempt to get answers from workers in the area, the reason behind the sudden twist proved futile as none of them were willing to communicate.

The only people communicating but rather sarcastically were NPP supporters who said “the battery that powers the fountain is dead,” “Mahama has disconnected the switch to the fountain,” “the person in charge of switching the Dubai is in coma” etc.

Usually the place is sparkling bright by 6pm since the officially opening by the President last month.

It would be however awkward, if President John Mahama’s defeat in the elections is the reason behind the development as others also believe that it is perhaps in solidarity of the President.

Following a comment by Minister of Roads and Highways, Inusah Fuseini after the opening of the Circle Interchange and its fountain, it would be impossible to envisage the recent development.

He stated on Accra-based Citi FM that, ”Generations yet to be born will be told about the Kwame Nkrumah Circle; that they now have an opportunity to see the Kwame Nkrumah Circle at that area. They will be told that once upon a time that Kwame Nkrumah Circle was policed by one Amankwah to keep discipline and order but today that Circle has a fountain and not only a fountain, a dancing fountain, a fountain that responds to music. “They will be told that once upon a time where the fountain stood was the Obra square but today that is not the Obra square, that is the place where people can relax. They will be told that all that what we call …niceties were part of the construction of the interchange.”

Is the dancing fountain dead already?
