The European Union (EU) Election Observation Mission to Ghana  has stated that the upcoming general election will be smooth and violence-free despite the few challenges with the special voting exercise.

Addressing the media in Accra, Chief Observer of the group, Tamàs Meszerics, said even though there are small issues with the special voting exercise, the Electoral Commission (EC) will be able to identify such issues and rectify them.

“Our observers have been there on the first day of the special voting, what we can say at this point is that we believe the EC have drawn important lessons from the small problems they themselves have identified , that is why we are having a repeat.”

According to him “what we have learnt is that the EC itself have been bringing up some of the issues and rectifying them, and they are aware of some, elections are always a learning process in every country, this is not unique to Ghana.”

Chief Observer for the EU Observation Mission believes the December 7 election will be peaceful.

“I have trust that the next election on December 7 will be a smooth operation.”
