Senior Minister nominee, Yaw Osafo Maafo has expressed his disagreement with the 40-year development plan put out by the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC).

According to him, even changes in technology defeats the idea of 40-year development plans so for him, any such planning to go beyond 10 years.

"I've expressed my views from day one that I do not believe in planning beyond 10 years", he told the Appointments Committee of Parliament on Friday.

Speaking during his vetting, the former Finance Minister stated that though the constitution makes the NDPC a super planning centre, President Nana Akufo-Addo's government "will not swallow the Development Plan as it is" but "take another look at it".

"Creating a 40-year plan when governments come in with different ideologies is problematic, 10 should be the limit. We will take a critical look at the 40-year plan and make modifications if they're necessary", he emphasised.

Notwithstanding his reservations about the length of the NDCP's plan, the Senior Minister-designate promised to work in tandem with the NDPC to ensure the government achieve its goals within the larger plan of the commission.

"I believe in consultation. We'll talk to people and make sure we're singing from the same sheet", he assured.
