In addition the Mining Company of the Year, GFGL also picked up the first runner-up award for Best Performer in Innovation.

The Vice President and Head of Stakeholder Relations for Gold Fields West Africa, Mr David Johnson, said, “it is great to have achievements to celebrate, particularly coming at a time when most of the recent developments in the mining industry have been less positive.”

“Gold Fields is glad to have been recognised for playing a leadership role in the mining industry in Ghana,” he added.

As part of the awards, the performance of mining companies were evaluated on Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Management, Social Investment, Local Content, and Innovation, using information from audits, as well as statutory and regulatory reports.

Mr Johnson said the challenge ahead for GFGL was for it to consolidate its leadership position by continuing to mine responsibly, reduce cost, and consistently return greater value to stakeholders, including employees and local communities.
