Ghana's Youth Employment Agency (YEA) will by the end of this month - September 2017, launch six (6) new modules aimed at building the capacity of graduate youths in the country.
The empowerment initiative will specifically provide participating young Ghanaians the chance to gain practical skills and experience that will enhance their employability in today’s job market and consequently, reduce the high level of unemployment in the country.
The proposed modules include: Youth In Security, Graduate Internship, Youth In Sanitation, Youth In Paid Internship, Youth In Revenue Mobilization, and Youth In Afforestation.
The YEA, in July this year, opened its doors to applicants across the ten Regions of the country and subsequently, extended the application period to last month - August. Currently, the process is at its shortlisting and recruitment stage.
Commenting on the development as well as the challenges encountered by the YEA in the execution of the previous modules during an encounter with the media, Chief Executive of the Agency, Justin Kodua, said the supply of inaccurate information by applicants, or beneficiaries resulted in the failure of the entire implementation process of the programme.
He however noted the agency will fully activate the Act of Parliament backing its operations.
He expressed confidence in the fact that, “the Acts states clearly what to do and time frame for every module so such challenges [as was witnessed in the implementation of previous modules]will not occur againâ€.
Alongside opening the applications process for these new modules in July, YEA dropped 17,000 alleged ghost names that formed part of the 63,000 beneficiaries on its payroll.
