A security expert has called for an immediate arrest of the General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, for making what he described as ‘treasonable comment'.
Mr. Emmanuel Kotin, who is the Executive Director of Africa Centre for Security and Terrorisms, considers the comment made by Mr. Asiedu Nketia that the emergence of vigilante groups like ‘the Hawks’ of NDC is "an appropriate natural response" to the failure of President Akufo-Addo government to rein in its party vigilante groups", as treasonable comment.
The NDC scribe had said the emergence of groups like Hawks is "an appropriate natural response" to the failure of the Akufo-Addo government to rein in its party vigilante groups.
Mr. Asiedu Nketia was defending the emergence of vigilante groups within the party, ‘the Hawks’, who were outdoored in Ashanti Region during the party’s Regional Executive Elections.
The Hawks were seen following and protecting the former Deputy Ashanti Regional Minister, Joseph Yamin, at the election grounds.
Other groups include 'The Dragons' who are based in the Brong Ahafo Region and 'The Lions' who are also based in the Eastern Region.
Mr. Asiedu Nketia reportedly said, "I endorse it fully".
Reacting to the issue in an interview with Adom TV’s Badwem which was monitored by PrimeNewsGhana, Mr. Kotin said, any serious country that is conscious of its security would have arrested Mr. Asiedu Nketia to answer questions over his ‘treasonable’ comment with immediate effect.
Mr. Kotin urged the security agencies in the country to be up and doing.
