The Chamber of Petroleum Consumers, Ghana (COPEC-GH) says the 8 member committee constituted by the Minster of Energy to investigate the contaminated oil saga should be dissolved with immediate effect.

COPEC-GH is of the view that the committee is already compromised and tainted with biases because of the alleged investigation conducted by the Bureau of National Investigation (BNI) and the National Security.

The call by the group comes on the back of the announcement made by the Energy Minister, Boakye Agyarko on July 4, saying the Managing Director of the Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation (BOST) Company Limited, Alfred Obeng Boateng, is exonerated of any involvement in the sale of 5 million litres of contaminated fuel based on an investigation conducted by the BNI.

Mr. Boakye Agyarko on June 28 2017 formed an eight-member committee which comprised of officials from the NPA, Tema oil refinery, Ghana Standard Authority, BNI, Chamber of Bulk oil distributors and the Association of oil marketing companies, Energy commission and representatives from relevant civil society groups in the country to probe circumstances surrounding the sale of contaminated fuel to two oil companies Movenpina Energy and Zup oil by the Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation company (BOST).

There have been several calls from some Ghanaians begging the question why the BNI, which is part of the 8 member committee set by the Energy Minister would go ahead to investigate BOST on the blind side of other members of the committee.

However speaking to Primenewsghana, Executive Director of COPECH-GH Duncan Amoah said the committee must be dissolved immediately before they waste the tax payer’s money because BNI’s report has prejudiced the 8 member committee’s work which is yet to start.

He added that, there should be an independent presidential commission of inquiry to look into the happenings at BOST to ascertain all fact in order to put the matter to rest.
