The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has announced the full-scale implementation of its digital sticker issuance system for vehicles cleared from the country’s ports, effective August 1, 2025.

The move comes after what officials described as a successful pilot phase at the Tema and Takoradi ports, where the system was tested to streamline sticker issuance and improve efficiency.

The digital sticker drive is part of DVLA’s broader digital transformation agenda, aimed at reducing manual processes, curbing fraud, and speeding up the vehicle registration process at Ghana’s major entry points.

According to a statement from the Authority, beginning next month, all vehicles cleared from the ports will receive their roadworthiness and registration stickers through the new digital system, integrated directly with customs and port operations.

“Following the success of the pilot at Tema and Takoradi, we are confident in scaling up this initiative nationwide,” said a spokesperson for the DVLA. “This innovation reduces delays, enhances transparency, and eliminates the manual bottlenecks that previously frustrated importers and clearing agents.”

Under the new system, vehicle owners will receive digitally generated stickers automatically upon registration, eliminating the need to physically visit DVLA offices for sticker collection after port clearance.

The DVLA assured the public that its staff and partners have been fully trained to ensure a smooth transition, and that systems at both ports are now optimized for full-scale operation.
