A devastating fire has ravaged the Suame Post Office Market in the Ashanti Region, destroying more than 300 shops and leaving scores of traders counting their losses.

The inferno, which started around 11 pm on Tuesday night, August 26, 2025, swept through the busy commercial hub, reducing goods worth thousands of cedis to ashes.

In a statement the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) said it received a distress call at 11:46 pm and rushed teams from four fire stations — Breman, Manhyia, RHQ Substation and Mamponteng — to the scene.

According the GNFS, the coordinated operation succeeded in containing the flames, though efforts to fully extinguish the fire continued into the early hours of Wednesday morning.

It revealed that "no casualties have been reported" and "the cause of the fire is yet to be determined."
