The Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Madam Lariba Zuweira Abudu, has announced that 160 Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies have now been enrolled on the Social Welfare Information Management System (SWIMS) to enable case management and referrals nationwide.
She added that several critical policies related to protection and empowerment have recently been submitted to parliament and cabinet.
Madam Zuweira Abudu said this at the 2023 Annual Summit of the Ministry on Monday in Accra and provided details on efforts to strengthen social welfare systems in the country.
“Over the past year, the Ministry provided support to victims of abuse, domestic violence and human trafficking and also used mechanisms like the Social Welfare Complaints and Response System to address grievances,” she added.
Madam Zuweira Abudu stated that the Ministry undertook extensive public awareness campaigns on issues like child rights, social protection, child marriage, human trafficking and domestic violence at national, regional, district and community levels.
On financial inclusion, she said social protection must empower beneficiaries to properly manage finances through access to credit, savings, insurance and tools tailored to their needs so that they can contribute their quota to national development.
She called for united efforts among stakeholders to mobilise sustainable resources and policies for the citizens.
