The Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has inaugurated the Governing Board of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, urging members to uphold integrity, confidentiality, and dedication in the execution of their duties.

The swearing-in ceremony, held in accordance with the Ghana Medical Trust Fund Act, 2025, marks a significant step toward enhancing accountability and equity in the country’s healthcare system. The Fund is expected to facilitate the fair distribution of medical specialists, diagnostic services, and health resources across the country.

According to the Minister, the Ghana Medical Trust Fund will also support training institutions, improve infrastructure, and strengthen the overall health delivery system.

“I am confident that under the capable leadership of Mr Tony Lithur and the collective expertise of the new board, the Ghana Medical Trust Fund will make a lasting impact on our nation’s health system,” Mr Akandoh stated.

He also expressed concern about the rising prevalence of non-communicable diseases (NCDs), which he said account for about 43 to 45 percent of deaths nationwide, stressing the need for coordinated measures to address the situation.

“The growing rate of NCDs demands stronger partnerships and policy action to protect public health,” the Minister added.

On behalf of the newly inaugurated board, the Chairman, Mr Tony Lithur, pledged the team’s commitment to promoting equitable and quality healthcare for all citizens.

“We will work diligently to ensure that every Ghanaian, regardless of location, benefits from improved access to quality healthcare services,” he assured.
