The Institute of Statistical Social and Economy Research (ISSER) has lamented the current state of education in the Ghana. According to ISSER’s report on the Education sector, standards of education have fallen across board partly due to inadequate funding.

Presenting the report at the University of Ghana today, a research fellow with ISSER, Professor Jonathan Arko Fletcher, stated the situation where only 20 percent of Senior High Schools produce 70 percent of students who access tertiary institutions is one bane of the education sector.

“Formerly we had 35 pupils in a class, you go to a secondary school today we have about 80 to 90  pupils, the idea behind that is we want to get everybody access but we not able to provide enough funding to improve infrastructure.”

In explaining further, Prof Fletcher said the 3 classrooms which housed 300 students formerly is now housing thousand students which clearly shows that government is not investing in education enough to curb such menace.

He added that “we cannot stop people from assessing education because we don’t have enough resources and therefore we have so many people getting access and that is eroding quality.”
