One person is reported dead with another unaccounted for after a downpour in koforidua, the Eastern Regional capital destroyed homes and other infrastructure in the township forcing many to lodge with relatives and friends or simply sleep in the open.

The prevalence of small drains instead of huge ones and the reckless attitude of residents who dispose refuse in the channels blocking waterways is said to have exacerbated the situation forcing rivers to overflow their banks.

About half of the town was submerged in flood waters with some residents complaining of losing phones, certificates, money and other gadgets including vehicles which were all washed away.

Some residents also sustained various degrees of injury. It is yet to be established if the death toll has risen.
