Former President and flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) John Dramani Mahama was last Friday enstooled as the ‘Development Chief’ of the Penyi Traditional Area in the Ketu North Municipality of the Volta Region.

During a vibrant durbar attended by Penyi chiefs and people on Friday, Mahama was given the title "Togbi Dunenyo I," which means "the Nugoryifia of the Penyi Traditional Area."

Mahama, who served as the special guest of honor at the recently concluded Penyi Nugoryiza festival, was welcomed into the community with an enthusiastic crowd and traditional drumming and dancing.

The paramount chief of Penyi, Togbiga Dadzi V, expressed his gratitude to Mr. Mahama for accepting their invitation and lauded the NDC for their contributions to various development projects in the region. He also called for continued support from the NDC when they return to power.

Penyi Nugoryiza is an annual festival celebrated by the chiefs and people of Penyi, which is one of the four traditional areas within the Ketu North Municipality in the Volta Region.
