The Minority is demanding the withdrawal from parliament of the 2018 budget presented last Wednesday by the Finance Minister.

Minority Spokesperson on Finance, Cassiel Ato Forson says some figures presented in the 2018 budget, were contained in the midterm budget presented to the house by Ken Ofori-Atta in July 2017. Those figures the Minority contend did not receive approval from parliament and so should not have been in the current budget statement.

Parliament today began debating the 2018 Budget Statement and Economic Policy of Government for consideration and approval.

Submitting his contribution, Mr Forson contended it is illegal for the Finance Minister to use the figures, some of which form the basis for the 2018 budget and demanded that the entire budget is withdrawn from the house for what he believes to be the right thing to be done.

The Minority spokesperson also raised issues with a 1.9 billion cedi expenditure projection for the office of the President, describing it as unprecedented and to some extent wasteful.

But Chairman of the Finance Committee Dr Mark Asibey Yeboah responded that allocations to some key government policies such as the Free SHS and scholarships are included in the expenditure projections of the Presidency.

The debate continues in the house...
