A delegate has collapsed and later confirmed died at a polling station in the ongoing parliamentary primaries of the governing NPP in Ablekuma South in the Greater Accra region.

According to Starr FM's report, the deceased, Jonathan Nii Otu was rushed to the Korle Bu teaching hospital where he was confirmed dead from cardiac arrest.

Meanwhile, in Amasaman are fuming over the decision of the party to call off today’s parliamentary primary following the court injunction.

The delegates are also angry over their inability to secure their transportation fares back to their various homes as a result of the cancellation of the polls.

An aspirant in the polls Rockson Adu Boahene on Friday obtained an interlocutory injunction to stop the election after he was disqualified from the contest.

The ruling party is holding the primaries in about 100 constituencies where they have no incumbent in parliament and are referred to as orphan constituencies.

Contests in Chereponi, Krachi West, Afadzato South, Kpando, Anlo and Hohoe will not hold due to what the party refers to as “compelling reasons.”

Security for polls

About 2,000 police personnel are deployed during today's parliamentary primaries.

The Director-General of Police Operations, COP George Alex Mensah, who disclosed this to the Ghanaian Times in Accra, said the Police will deploy adequate personnel and logistics, to ensure successful primaries.

He said the police will be solely in charge of security at the polling stations, and no party security and other sister security agencies will be involved in ensuring law and order.

COP Mensah said no unregistered and registered motorcycles would be allowed a hundred meters to the polling centres, and only registered delegates and party officials would be allowed at the centres.

He said regional, divisional and district police commanders have also been directed to collaborate with the NPP executives in ensuring smooth elections.
