Director of Finance for the New Patriotic Party(NPP), Ken Ofori-Atta said the country will be in trouble if government is not changed.

Speaking on Viasat 1’s Ghana Report current affair show on Monday night, he said the country has reached a critical junction where government has derailed and need to be changed.

“The country would be dull and the economy would be further destroyed if the current government under President John Mahama is maintained,” he stated.

Comparing the eight years of NPP and the eight years of the NDC, he said the NPP ended with 26% debt of GDP ratio and nine billion dollars of debt and the NDC is ending with 38 million dollars of debt and have double digit physical deficit for eight years.

He added that “we can pretend for all we like but that is where we find ourselves as a country. Business people and the country at large is not getting value for the money in projects that we do such that if one invests 200 million to 220 million into a 600 bed hospital at Legon and do 250 million for a 200 bed hospital rehabilitation in Ridge, certainly there is a problem.”

He stressed that “I do not think we are collecting the kind of revenues we should be collecting from the ports and state enterprises are not working in the way they should.”

“This is an opportunity for a new beginning with the NPP as we cannot be quiet in the business environment and has to do something to restrict the spending powers of government,” he added.

The NPP he said would approach issues differently in terms of financial discipline, corruption and can boost of entrepreneurs and business people that would help in the growth of the economy.

“One of the greatest mistakes in the history of the country is allowing the NPP to lose power in 2008 and won’t support any party in government except it is the NPP,” he stated.

The NPP he said is bringing a new face and a new plan and certain they would do better than the current government with a better borrowing terms.

The discussions on the show was focused on business and politics as the country has only 43 days ahead of the general elections on December 7.
