The Minister for National Security, Albert Kan Dapaah has called on political parties to do away with the establishment of vigilante groups in their parties as it threatens the security of the nation.
Addressing Parliament on Thursday, the National Security Minister indicated that if the nation do not address the issue of vigilante group among political parties in due course it will become a future problem for the nation.

“I urge the house, that we all come together, and the political leaders, to accept that these action groups can become a major security threat for us in future if we do not confront them, and I assure you that we have every intention to confront these militant action groups.”

In reference to the recent attack on the Ashanti regional security coordinator by pro-New Patriotic Party group Delta Force, the minister stated that he believes the law will take it full dimension.

“I do know that the law enforcement agency will ensure that those involved in the recent incident in Kumasi would be dealt with appropriately and in accordance with the law. If we have done something in the past we wouldn’t be where we are now,”

According to him these group are not legally recognized “there are no legally registered vigilante groups in this country and for that matter, there are no such groups to be disbanded. However, I think we need to be pragmatic and accept that foot soldiers of the leading political parties are known to constitute themselves into action troops to molest and unleash violence on the peace loving people of this country.

“We need to stop such activities because these action groups have the tendency to degenerate into militant groups that can have serious repercussions on the security of the country. Mr. Speaker we must not mix criminality with politicians. Lawlessness must be punished as demanded by the laws of this country.” He explained.
