Attempts by the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) to get parliament to probe the circumstances under which John Dramani Mahama received a four-wheel vehicle believed to be worth around $100,000 as a gift from a Burkinabe contractor will likely not succeed.

According to the MP for Ashaiman and Deputy Majority Leader, Alfred Agbesi, the NDC caucus will resist any attempt by the NPP to raise the issue on the floor of Parliament.

“I will say without any reservation at all that if that issue should be raised in Parliament, we on our side we shall resist with all the forces at our disposal,” he stated.

Speaking on Citi FM, he argued, “It is a waste of time, it is unnecessary and uncalled for and we can’t sit down for such things to be done at our political development. The constitution for which we operate have made an elaborate provisions on how to take such actions against the President.”

“It is not a matter of them calling for a by-partisan committee to investigate this matter. The provision is there and they know what to do, they shouldn’t be playing to the gallery. We are not going to allow them to be playing to the gallery all the time. I think we have to tell them in the face,” Mr Agbesi added.
