Eberechi Eze struck the winner as Crystal Palace lifted the FA Cup for the first time in their history, courtesy of a famous 1-0 victory over Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City at Wembley.
The Eagles’ talismanic forward netted for the fifth game in a row as he arrived on cue to flash home Daniel Munoz’s cross from what was their first attack of the final on 16 minutes.
There was controversy shortly after the opener as Palace goalkeeper Dean Henderson appeared to handle the ball outside his area with Erling Haaland charging through the middle.
The referee and VAR did not see fit to punish The Eagles goalkeeper, and he went on to take centre stage, magnificently saving Omar Marmoush’s penalty and also thwarting Haaland and Jeremy Doku.
The pattern continued in the second half, but Palace remained a threat on the break with Munoz having a second goal ruled out for offside by VAR just shy of the hour.
Substitute Claudio Echeverri, 19, almost marked his City debut in sensational fashion, but he could not find a way past the inspired Henderson and Palace held on to secure a shock triumph.
