Ghana-Netherlands link sends GH Olympians to Rio

During the Summer Olympics, Ghanaian athletes can count on Dutch and Ghanaian support in the form of Cocoa from Ghana: a Dutch initiative that hopes to raise awareness for Ghanaian cocoa. Cocoa from Ghana recently signed a sponsorship agreement with the Ghana Olympic Committee.

The goal of the strategic partnership is to improve the performance of Ghanaian athletes. Cocoa from Ghana is proud to sponsor the Ghanaian athletes during the 2016 Summer Olympics as part of its strategic partnership.

Introducing:

Sean Safo-Antwi: sprinter - men's 100 metres 
Ghanaian sprinter Sean Safo-Antwi (25) competed for Great Britain before switching allegiance to Ghana in early 2016. His personal record for the 100-metre dash is 10.14 seconds.

Flings Owusu-Agyapong: sprinter - women's 100 metres
Owusu Agyapong (27) competed in the 2014 and 2016 World Indoor Championships. Her personal record for the 100-metre dash is 11.26 seconds.

Emmanuel Dasor: sprinter - men's 200 metres
Although the 400-metre dash is his specialty, Emmanuel Dasor (20) will compete in the 200-metre dash during the Summer Olympics. In 2014 he set a personal record in this event with 10.41 seconds. 

Janet Amponsah: sprinter - women's 200 metres 
Janet Amponsah (23) made it to the quarter finals of the 2013 World Championships and took home silver at the 2010 Commonwealth Games. Her personal record for the 200-metre dash is 22.99 seconds. 

Alex Amankwah: sprinter - men's 800 metres
Amankwah (24) will compete in the men's 800-metre dash. His personal record is 1.45.91.

John Ampomah: javelin throw
John Ampomah (26) was born in Accra, Ghana and specialises in the javelin throw. His personal record is 83.09 metres, which is also the Ghanaian national record. He will make his Olympic debut in Rio in 2016.

Abdul Wahid Omar: boxing
Boxer Abdul Omar (23) will compete in the men's bantamweight class (52 kg). He won a bronze medal at the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

Szandra Szögedi: judo
This will be the first time Ghana will be represented by a female judo competitor during the Olympic Games. The Hungarian-born Szandra Szögedi (27) will compete in the middleweight class (63 kg).

Christian Amoah: weightlifting
Christian Amoah (17) will make his Olympic debut representing Ghana. He will compete in the middle-heavyweight class (85 kg).

Kaya Forson: swimming
Kaya Forson lives is Spain and is the youngest Olympic competitor at just fourteen years old. She will compete in the women's 200-metre freestyle.

Abeiku Jackson: swimming
Abeiku Jackson (15) has set several national records: the 50-metre butterfly, 100-metre butterfly and the 50-metre freestyle. He will compete in the men's 50-metre freestyle.

4x100 metres relay
Sprinters Gemma Acheampong, Beatrice Gyaman, Dorcas Gyimah,
Persis William-Mensah and Akua Obeng-Akrofi qualified as the fifteenth team in the Olympic Games.

Working together for top-level performance 
Cocoa from Ghana supports many different sports. This past June marked the beginning of the one-year sponsorship of the Ghana Olympic Committee with the intention to extend this sponsorship to the 2020 Olympic Games.

Cocoa from Ghana is also an official sponsor of the West African Football Academy (WAFA) which was founded by the Feyenoord Football Academy. Cocoa from Ghana wants to make a contribution to the future of these athletes. In the Netherlands, Cocoa from Ghana is a sponsor of the Dutch women's handball team to safeguard the continuity of handball as top-level sport.
