Hearts of Oak will open their title defence against Legon Cities today in match day 1 of the Ghana Premier League.

The Phobians won it all last season – picking their first League title in 12 years and first FA Cup crown in 21 years.

Hearts of Oak head into the game in an unstable mindset as their ego was badly bruised last weekend in Morocco in the Champions League. Samuel Boadu’s side were humiliated 6-1 by Wydad Casablanca to exit the competition.

That notwithstanding, Hearts of Oak have a competent squad to compete for the title this season.

They have beefed up with the signing of Kofi Kordzi, Enoch Asubonteng, Salim Adams, Suraj Musah, Agyenim Boateng and Gladson Awako.

For Legon Cities this game gives them the platform to announce their young squad to the football fans after enduring a topsy-turvy campaign last term.

The East Legon based club escaped relegation on the final day of the 2020/21 season – changed three coaches and made a number of marquee signings who made no major impact in the season.

Maxwell Konadu has recruited a young and dynamic squad who have the capacity to trouble Hearts of Oak on Sunday.

The match will kick off at 3pm on Sunday, October 31, 2021.

Eleven Wonders up against AshantiGold at Ohene Ameyaw Park at Techiman.

In Bibiani, newly promoted side Gold Stars will play their first-ever Premier League game against Berekum Chelsea at DUN’s park. Gold Stars who picked the single slot in Zone Two will be led by former Asante Kotoko and Liberty Professionals Coach Michael Osei.

Two time Champions Aduana Stars have a tough test against Karela United at the CAM Park at Anyinase while Bechem United entertain Medeama SC at the Fosu Gyeabuor Park.

At the Aliu Mahama Stadium Real Tamale United will welcome Great Olympics to Tamale in another fierce contest.

King Faisal who played away from home last season will square off with WAFA at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi.

The Premier League campaign opened on Friday with a game between Accra Lions and Elmina Sharks which ended 1-1 at the Accra Sports stadium.
