WAFU 2019: Hearts of Oak congratulates 'quartet' for making Ghana's final squad

Ghana Premier League giants Hearts of Oak have sent a congratulatory message to four of their players for making Ghana's 21-man squad for the WAFU 2019 tournament.

Skipper Fatawu Mohammed, defender Mohammed Alhassan, midfielder Benjamin Afutu and striker Joseph Esso were given an invite into coach Maxwell Konadu's final squad for this WAFU tournament ongoing in Senegal.

The 1911 club tweeted: Congratulations to Captain Fatawu, Mo Alhassan, Esso and Afutu for making it into Ghana’s 21-man squad for this year’s WAFU tournament which is being held in Senegal. @HeartsOfOakGH wishes them and the team all the best as they start their campaign tomorrow against Gambia.

Ghana’s first match against Gambia is scheduled for Tuesday, October 1 at 5:00 pm.

The Black Stars B, which is a 21-man squad for the tournament includes three goalkeepers, defenders and midfielders have 7 players each and four strikers.

Goalkeepers

Felix Annan, Eric Ofori Antwi and Isaac Hagan

Defenders

Fatawu Mohammed, Issaka Mohammed, Yussif Ouattara, Moro Ibrahim, Mohammed Alhassan, Patrick Yeboah, Habib Mohammed

Midfielders

Benjamin Afutu, James Akominko, Latif Anabila, Emmanuel Gyamfi, Augustine Okrah, Appiah McCarthy, Justice Blay

Strikers

Prince Opoku Agyemang, Joseph Esso, Richard Arthur, Shafiu Mumuni.

The Black Stars B on September 22 lost by a lone goal in the first leg of the CHAN 2020 qualifier at the Baba Yara Stadium to the Stallions of Burkina Faso.

Ghana will be making a trip to Ouagadougou to play the Stallions in the second leg on October 20. The winner qualifies to the CHAN tournament to be staged in Cameroon.

Ghana have missed out in the last two editions of the tournament and must play above themselves if they want to feature in next year's showpiece.
