World Cup 2022Q: Hearts of Oak's Fatawu Mohammed handed late Black Stars call up to replace Benson Annan

Hearts of Oak captain Fatawu Mohammed has been invited by Charles Kwablan Akonnor to join the Black Stars prepare ahead of the World Cup 2022 qualifiers.

The right-back who is also training with Hearts of Oak as they shape up for the CAF Champions League assignment against CI Kamsar has been handed a late call up due to the injury of Slovakia-based Benson Annan over the weekend.

Fatawu Mohammed will be joining teammates Richard Attah and Daniel Afriyie Barnieh in the Black Stars camp.

He is not the only player to be called by CK Akonnor on Tuesday ahead of Ethiopia and South Africa doubleheader as Great Olympics midfielder Samuel Ashie Quaye has also been called up to the Black Stars squad.

The duo, Fatawu Mohammed and Samuel Ashie Quaye become the latest to be drafted to the Senior National team after Spain-based defender Joseph Aidoo and two Germany-based players Braydon Manu and Daniel Kofi Kyereh.

The Black Stars play Ethiopia on Friday, September 3 at 7pm at Cape Coast Stadium before travelling for the South Africa clash on September 6.

Meanwhile, 13 Black Stars players on Monday trained at the McDan Park in La for the first time ahead of next their upcoming double FIFA World Cup 2022 qualifiers.

The players who turned up for training were youngster Abdul Fatawu Issahaku, captain Dede Ayew, Jordan Ayew, Mubarak Wakaso, Daniel Afriyie Barnieh, Emmanuel Lomotey, Samuel Owusu, goalkeeper Richard Attah, Abdul Baba Rahman, Emmanuel Gyasi, Jonathan Mensah, goalkeeper Richard Ofori and Ismail Ganiyu.
