A directive by the Controller and Accountant General's Department (CAGD) for all public sector workers to get the Ghana Card by end of November has been suspended.
The CAGD had urged all public workers to register with the National Identification Authority (NIA) for the Ghana Card or forfeit their salaries by December 1, 2021.
However, in a new twist, the department has been tasked to port the names of public sector workers in their existing database onto the National Identification Authority (NIA) platform.
CAGD will subsequently inform the various institutions about any unregistered staff that may exist.
According to the Daily Graphic, a state-owned news source, this latest move is the outcome of a meeting by the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations, Ministry of Finance, the CAGD and the leadership of organised labour.
The meeting, according to the Daily Graphic was held on Tuesday, October 19, 2021.
