The government has announced that family members of the victims who lost their lives in the El-Wak Stadium stampede will be granted automatic recruitment slots into the security services.

The decision was communicated by Deputy Defence Minister Ernest Brogya Gyamfi, during a visit to one of the bereaved families in Eyan Maim, Central Region.

According to him, President John Dramani Mahama has instructed that each affected family be given an automatic recruitment slot.

Meanwhile, the Interior Ministry has postponed the 2025 recruitment screening to November 17, citing the need to enhance safety measures and prevent a recurrence of the tragic incident.

At a press confereence on November 14, 2025, the Minister Muntaka Mubarak outlined the following measures to ensure a smooth selection process.

He intimated that there will be multiple screening Centers in every Region, with between 10 to 15 Centers in Accra.

No screening center will accommodate more than 1,000 people at a time, with a target of 500 persons in the morning and another 500 in the afternoon.

He wanred that, any applicant who shows up in the morning when he/she has been scheduled for the afternoon, will be instantly disqualified.

To avoid overcrowding, the screening exercise will be done in turns. The Police Service will complete its screening before another Agency starts its screening, ensuring no congestion.

The screening process will also be staggered to prevent simultaneous screenings at the same location.

A total of 28 applicants were affected in the El Wak incident, with 12 in critical condition, five receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit, and six confirmed dead. A separate recruitment exercise in Kumasi also recorded five injuries.
