e.Tv Ghana's State of the Nation hosted by Kwame Gyan caught with Rebecca Akufo-Addo, the wife of the NPP flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addo, and three of their children  — Edwina, Valerie and Gyankroma — their residence in Nima, Accra, last week.

 The interview provided deep insight into Akufo-Addo’s relationship with his family that the public probably did not know about.

Here are five things they said about Nana Addo as put together by YEN:

1. Akufo-Addo is a loving husband and father

According to Mrs Akufo-Addo, the NPP leader is a very caring husband and father who loves his wife, children and grand-children so much.

2. Akufo-Addo loves politics

She said: “Politics makes Akufo-Addo tick. He lives and sleeps politics. He has so much that he wants to do for his country and wants to be given the opportunity to put Ghana in the right place on the map.”

3. Akufo-Addo doesn’t care about insults

Nana Addo is a seasoned politician who knows harsh verbal attacks come with the territory. According his wife, he handles them well and has taught her how to handle them well also.

However, she finds them difficult to handle sometimes: “At times it can be painful and very upsetting to hear what people come up with about him – people who hardly know him. They will come out and say very, very nasty things all because of politics, and I must say our politics is degenerating into a bad state of affairs.”

4. Akufo-Addo’s children lead normal lives

According to Akufo-Addo’s daughter, Edwina, he raised them to be independent and to lead normal, simple lives. They fit into society well because they do not see their lives as extraordinary.

5. No politics in Akufo-Addo’s house

Akufo-Addo’s daughter, Valerie, notes that although their father is a career politician, the family does not discuss politics at home 90 per cent of the time. When he returns from campaigning, thee NPP flagbearer spends most of his time with his grandchildren.

Gyankroma  adds that the family is now used to his frequent travels away from home as part of his campaign.
