Because he advised his mother to leave her abusive lover, a 25-year-old man has been butchered to death at Gomoa Ahomerew by his step-father who is now in the custody of the Winneba police.

The suspect, Kwaku Effirim, according to reports, could not withstand the pain after the separation from the lover, who was allegedly advised by her son to end the relationship.

The deceased, Kofi Annan, 25, died while being transported to the Trauma & Specialist Hospital at Winneba.

The suspect however, went into hiding after committing the act but the police managed to apprehend him on May 10, 2016 at Winneba.

According to Winneba District Police Commander ASP Reverend John Agbemebiase, the suspect was in an amorous relationship with Efua Kwansema – the mother of the deceased – for five years.

In March this year, Kwaku Effirim allegedly assaulted  and injured the lover severely but refused to take her to the hospital for medical treatment.

Kofi Annan, who realized that his mother’s condition was critical, immediately took her to the hospital for treatment and afterwards warned her to end the relationship with the man.

Efua Kwansema, after her treatment, broke up with the suspect and he became infuriated.

Effirim left Gomoa Ahomerew where the lover resides and relocated to Half Asini in the Western Region.

On May 6, 2016 around 1am, Effirim travelled from Half Assini to Gomoa Ahomerew and attempted to sneak into the room of Madam Efua Kwansema but realized that Kofi Annan was sleeping on the veranda which leads to her room.

Kwaku Effirim purportedly grabbed a machete and struck the step son – who was fast asleep – in the shoulder and the neck and bolted.

A report was lodged with the Winneba police immediately.

The suspect, who was apprehended at his hideout at Winneba by the police, will soon be arraigned before court after police investigation has been concluded.
