Accra based radio station, Montie 100.1 FM has been shut down by the National Communications Authority(NCA) over unpaid license fee.

The station reportedly went off the air at about 3 pm Wednesday after it persistently refused to heed to the caution by the NCA to settle the accumulated debt.

Radio Gold, a sister station to Montie FM also owes a huge amount of debt to the regulatory body and has been warned to pay or face a shutdown within a month. Both stations are owned by Network Broadcasting Limited.

In 2016, Montie FM became popular when a presenter and two panelists at the station were convicted of contempt by the Supreme Court, sentenced to four months' imprisonment and fined 10,000 cedis each for threatening judges with death.

Directors of Network Broadcasting Company, operators of Montie FM - Edward Addo, Ato Ahwoi, Kwesi Kyei Atuah and Harry Zakour, owner of the frequency were also fined 30,000 cedis.
