CAF unveils new Champions League trophy ahead of final

The Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF) has officially launched the striking new Champions League trophy, ushering in a bold new era for Africa’s premier club competition.

The unveiling took place at the headquarters of headline sponsor TotalEnergies’ in Johannesburg, attended by notable African football legends and leaders.

The event featured celebrated figures such as Lucas Radebe, Teko Modise, and Siphiwe Tshabalala, who came together to witness this significant milestone. As one of the finalists, either Mamelodi Sundowns or Pyramids FC will have the honor of lifting this new trophy, making history in the process.

CAF General Secretary Véron Mosengo-Omba highlighted that the trophy’s redesign represents a vital step in CAF’s commitment to modernize and elevate African football. “In line with the vision of CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe, we are rebranding and repositioning African football, especially focusing on interclub competitions. This trophy reveal reflects our ambition to inspire a new generation of talent and elevate our competitions to global prominence,” he stated.

Olagoke Aluko, Managing Director and CEO of TotalEnergies Marketing South Africa, expressed pride in being part of this historic moment. “This event goes beyond unveiling the trophy; it celebrates a powerful momentum that unites people across Africa. Our partnership with CAF underscores our commitment to supporting a sport that embodies the values of diversity, unity, and cohesion,” he remarked.

Anticipation Builds for the Champions League Final

The unveiling has sparked excitement ahead of the much-anticipated first leg of the 2024/25 Champions League final, set for May 25 in Pretoria. Mamelodi Sundowns will face off against Pyramids FC, with the return leg scheduled for June 1 in Cairo.

Featuring sleek silver and gold lines, it symbolizes unity, rivalry, and the competitive spirit of the tournament.
