With their contracts set to expire, Manchester United have opened contract extension talks with Juan Mata, Ashely Young, and Ander Herrera.

The trio are free to negotiate deals with rivals as from January if they enter the last six months of their existing contracts. Mata became the Manchester United’s record signing when he joined from Chelsea back in 2014 for a fee of £37.1M. Ander Herrera joined the following season from Spanish club Athletic Bilbao for a fee of £29M.

Mourinho has previously made his intentions clear about keeping the trio, “I hope they will stay. We had a similar conversation last season about Marouane and I was always saying I hope he stays, I believe he stays.

“I say the same. I hope they stay. Of course, I am happy with the players. Juan and Ander, even if they are not playing or not playing a lot, not starting matches, by the personality point-of-view and character point-of-view, by what they represent in the modern society in football, they are almost unique pieces that I also don't want to lose."
