Ghana's only representative in Africa, Medeama SC  record the first win of their debut CAF Confederations Cup competition with a 3-1 victory against Young Africans of Tanzania at the Essipong Stadium on Tuesday.

In a thrilling encounter, Medeama opened the scoring early in the game after defender, Daniel Amoah headed in corner kick.

Captain Malik Akowuah squandered a chance to cushion his side's lead when he missed a spot kick in the 10th minute after Bernard Ofori was fouled in the box but it did not take before Abass Mohammed provided this much-needed strike with 13th minute strike.

The Tanzanians, coached by former Hearts of Lions coach, Hans van der Pluijm, reduced the deficit through a well-converted spot kick  Simon HappyGod Msuya.

Abass Mohammed restored the two-goal lead with a header after YANGA keeper, Munish had failed to completely deal with Bernard Ofori's headed effort

The win means Medeama's will overtake Algeria's MO Bejaia in second place if group leaders TP Mazembe beat the Algerians in DR Congo by more than two goals.

Lubumbashi-based TP Mazembe leads the group with seven points, MO Bejaia and Medeama have five points each while YANGA has just a point.
