It would be a different atmosphere for the two players who have enjoyed some telepathy at Barcelona.

Brazil would be hoping to avenge their 7-1 defeat to Argentina in the absence of Neymar who would be anticipating for this game.

Thursday’s match is dubbed the South American ‘Superclasico’.

But the Brazil coach Tite has named a very young squad to face their rivals with Real Madrid left back Marcelo, Manchester City midfielder Fernandinho and former Tottenham midfielder Paulinho, now playing in China, as the only survivors of the Germany game expected to start.

Liverpool pair Roberto Firmino and Philippe Coutinho, who have helped fire the Reds to the top of the Premier League, should start in attack.

This could come at the expense of Chelsea winger Willian, with Tite favouring Coutinho over the Blues’ man in the previous two qualifiers.

For Argentina, Gonzalo Higuain is prefered to Aguero in attack, with the Napoli man tipped to partner Messi up front.

Pablo Zabaleta and Nicolas Otamendi join their Sky Blues team-mate in the squad, though Otamendi is the only one expected to start. Additional files from The Sun
