My victory is a huge gain for Para sports in Ghana - Newly elected APC President Samson Deen

Newly elected President of African Paralympic Committee (APC) Samson Deen says his victory is a huge gain for Paralympic Sports in Ghana as the country is scheduled to host the African Games and Para Sports in 2023.

The National Paralympic Committee of Ghana boss replaces Angola's Leonel da Rocha Pinto, who had led the APC since 2008 and was re-elected unopposed in 2017.

Samson Deen polled 24 of the 41 votes at the organisation's General Assembly in the Moroccan capital Rabat.

Upon his arrival at the Kotoka International Airport where he was welcomed by Director-General of National Sports Authority (NSA), Prof. Peter Twumasi and the President of Ghana Olympic Committee, Mr. Ben Nunoo and others, Sampson Deen expressed his profound gratitude to President Akufo Addo for endorsing his candidature for the just-ended African Paralympic Committee election at Morocco.

He explained that, the battle was between Ghana and Morocco but with the immense support of Akufo-Addo and the Deputy Minister for Youth and Sports, Hon. Evans Bobie, Ghana won the election.

He stated that, he almost stepped down but with the help of Hon. Evans Bobie and brothers from the West Africa Summit present at the election grounds, he was able to pull through and emerge winner.

He pledged to work diligently and live up to the expectation of the position given to him. He stated he is ready to serve well and ensure that inclusiveness is at the prime of his heart as far as he occupies such a high profile seat.

Mr. Ben Nunoo Mensah urged everyone to support Mr. Sampson Deen in executing his duties and accord him the necessary respect he deserves because this is one of Ghana’s high profile seats which makes it a big win for Ghana and West Africa as well.
