Health Minister, Kwaku Agyemang-Manu has assured the general public that the ministry will resolve the unrest at the Ankaful Psychiatric Hospital.

“I believe we can resolve these matters, it is not a matter of service condition issues, it is a matter of personality clash with the Chief Executive of the place…we will meet with them and I believe we can resolve the matter amicably,” he said on Thursday, 23 November during a meet-the-press session in Accra.

The nurses began a strike, Thursday, to register their displeasure at the Health Ministry's refusal to sack the hospital's medical director, Dr Eugene Dordoye who has been accused of being corrupt and managing the facility recklessly.

The Medical Director has been accused of human rights abuse, conflict of interest, misappropriation of funds and resources, among others.

Patients at the psychiatric hospital have since been discharged while the hospital staff embark on a sit-down strike.

Meanwhile, the Chief Executive of the Mental Health Authority, Dr Akwasi Osei says it will be wrong for nurses at the Ankaful Psychiatric hospital to discharge inmates for alleged misappropriation of funds by the Chief Executive of the hospital.

In an interview with Radio Ghana, Dr Osei said a meeting with the leadership of the nurses has been scheduled for next week Tuesday, therefore the nurses' decision to strike comes to him as a surprise.
