President John Dramani Mahama has disclosed plans to improve roads in Accra and the creation of a new administrative city to ease congestion in the capital.

Speaking in Dodowa during his thank-you tour on Friday, the President said work will soon begin on several key routes.

He said the Adenta-Dodowa road will finally be completed, while the Ashaiman-Madina stretch and Dawhenya-Afienya-Dodowa corridor will be fully rebuilt.

Other roads set for upgrades include the Tema-Teshie link and the Apolonia-Oyibi route.

The plan includes widening Liberation Road, improving the Airport bypass from Elwak to Christ the King, and upgrading the Ring Road between Kwame Nkrumah Interchange and La Beach Hotel.

According to him, major part of the proposal is the Outer Ring Road that will let trucks bypass Accra completely.

“Vehicles traveling from Togo to Kumasi or Takoradi won’t need to enter the city,” President Mahama explained.

He disclosed that the government will examine building a new city on the Accra Plains to house some government offices.

The President said this would be connected to Accra by expressway and rail.

Turning to traditional matters, the President encouraged chiefs and community leaders to work together in resolving disputes.

“While government cannot interfere in chieftaincy issues, we stand ready to support dialogue and peaceful solutions,” he said.

The Ministry of Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs will assist where needed, helping maintain harmony across communities.
