The Ghana Police Service has deployed more personnel from different departments and engaged INTERPOL to help find the three girls who were kidnapped in Takoradi.
According to the police, they will work tirelessly to ensure that the kidnappers are arrested.
Civil Societies has chastised the police over their failure to act promptly to rescue the girls and return them to their families.
This has led to social media campaigns calling for action from stakeholders, but the Director General of the Police Public Affairs ACP David Eklu said, the police will go the extra mile to locate the girls.
“A specialized unit from the counter-terrorism unit, the police intelligence directorate, the CID, are in the Western Region to support the efforts that they are making in the region so that we get these girls and reunite them with their families,†he said.
Several weeks after official complaints were made to the police concerning the disappearance of the children, the police are yet to provide concrete information on the whereabouts of the children although it is holding a key suspect.
The situation has left families anxious with calls on the police to act speedily and more aggressively.
On Monday(21 January 2019), the Public Relations Officer for the Western Regional Police Command, DSP Olivia Adiku in a Citinews interview monitored by PrimeNewsGhana said that although a suspect is in police custody, they’re yet to get information on where specifically the girls are.

“We are still working around the clock to get some information because though we have been able to arrest him, he has not been able to tell us exactly where these ladies are. Whether they are in Ghana or not, their state of health and all that. We are assuring the families. It isn’t everything we can say publicly but we are doing a lot of work behind the scenes to get to the bottom of this issue. Certain leads have come up but we can’t put it on air for security reasons,†she said.
The Western Regional Police Commander, DCOP Redeemer Dedjoe is also urging the public to stay calm as the police has received new information that will help it rescue the kidnapped girls.
Meanwhile, the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Cynthia Morrison, has called on the families of the victims to stay calm, as the police work to rescue the girls.
According to Cynthia Morrison “Already, the families of the kidnapped girls are agitated. All we are praying for is that we get our girls back… As at now, we do not know what is happening to them. I pray they will not be molested. They [families] have started agitating but I asked them to calm down…â€
