Deputy Minister of Education, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum revealed on Monday that the Ministry is considering the lifting of the ban on the usage of mobile phones in Senior High Schools.

This has generated debate as to whether the lifting of the ban will serve its intended purpose of enhancing the teaching and learning of Information Communication Technology (ICT) or distract students during lessons.

Government through the Ministry of Education over the years has placed a ban on the use of mobile phones in secondary and basic schools with the explanation that it is a distraction to their studies.

With many schools lacking facilities for the smooth learning of ICT, it has become difficult for some students, especially in rural areas, to compete equally with others in the urban centres.

Deputy Minister of Education Yaw Osei Adu Twum believes the students could use smartphones where possible to bridge the gap, hence the consideration to lift the ban.

So what do people on the streets think about the move? primenewsghana sought to find out.
