Ghana Football Association (GFA) has explained why certain players have been handed call ups to joined the Black Stars ahead of next month's FIFA World Cup qualifier.

Ghana are set to play Zimbabwe in a doubleheader for the FIFA World Cup 2022 qualifiers.

It is the norm that few weeks to every international game, a national team coach hands call ups to the players we would be using for the clash but in this case, Ghana is without a head coach following the sacking of Charles Kwablan Akonnor and players have been invited.

Reports emerged on Wednesday that some foreign-based players have been invited for the Zimbabwe doubleheader.

The GFA however, have come out to explain why it is so.

According to the Communications Director for GFA, former Black Stars coach CK Akonnor submitted a list of players we will be using for the doubleheader before he was thrown under the bus on September 14.

“What happens is that 3 weeks before every game the coach submits his list,” he said.

He then added regardless of who is hired it is likely that this squad will be used by the next coach

“CK submitted his squad on Sunday and he was fired on Monday, so as we speak there is a squad in mind," he said.

The Black Stars sit 3rd with three points after two games played.

Ghana are seeking to participate in the global showpiece having missed the last edition hosted in Russia in 2018.

Meanwhile, the GFA is expected to name Milovan Rejevac as the new Black Stars coach in a press conference that will be held at the GFA Conference room at 2pm today.
