Human Rights Watch says it's concerned that unlawful detentions are continuing unabated in Rwanda.
In April last year the organisation released a report on the ill-treatment of prisoners in the country's Gikondo Transit Centre.
However, new research has found that Rwanda is still rounding up poor people and detaining them in transit centres around the country.
A senior researcher for Human Rights SAWatch, Carina Tertsakian says, “Even though some of these directives are supposed to improve the conditions in theory, the conditions have not fundamentally changed.
We are particularly concerned that there's still no due process in terms of regulating the arrests and the detentions. People are still being bounded up and held illegally in very harsh environment†reports sabc.co.za.
