An Accra Circuit Court has sentenced two persons to a ten-year jail term each for unlawful possession of narcotic drugs.

The convicts, Benjamin Aryeh, a refrigerator mechanic and Joyce Obiri were convicted for possessing 23 parcels of dried leaves suspected to be marijuana (Indian Hemp).

According to the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Patience Mario who prosecuted the case, the two were arrested with the parcels by the Kwabenya Police on October 23, 2015 after they received information about the activities of some drug peddlers at Haatso.

Upon interrogation, the two claimed ownership of the items but failed to lead the police to one Agbeko of Kpalime in Togo who they claimed to be their supplier.

Though they pleaded not guilty to the charges, Mr Aboagye Tandoh who presided over the case found them guilty and sentenced them to 10 years imprisonment each in hard labour.
