The Greater Accra Regional Hospital opens within weeks

“The Greater Accra Regional Hospital/ Ridge is a few weeks away from opening” #TransformingGhana

The above was a tweet from James Agyenim-Boaten, Presidential Staffer at Office of the Vice President of the Republic of Ghana prompting that soon the hospital then known as the Ridge Hospital and now the Greater Accra Regional Hospital shall be open to the public for use.

The new hospital is reported to serve as a fully functional ultra-modern and purpose-built hospital with its 620 in-patient, intensive care and day care beds providing health care services in medical and surgical specialties and sub-specialties.

Although contractors for the project had estimated $306 million as cost, borrowing limit placed on government meant $250 million was devoted for at least the first phase.

 The Health Ministry seeking to assure citizens of prudent management offered a statement which partly read “Cabinet at its 36th meeting held on Thursday, 2nd August, 2012 granted approval for the two Credit Agreements between Government of Ghana and Export-Import Bank of United States for an amount of US$157,500,000.00 and HSBC Bank for an amount of US$92,500,000.00 respectively…We wish to state that this project has really gone through all the necessary statutory approvals and laid down procedures for procuring single source projects,”.

According to government, the re-construction of the Ridge Hospital is in line with its quest to provide every Region in Ghana with an ultra-modern secondary level referral Regional Hospital.

The hospital is expected to offer Ghanaians access to MRI, CT Scan, X-Ray, ECG and Ultrasound services as well as Pharmacy, Maternal and Pediatric care, Accident Emergency care, Ear, Nose and Throat, Ophthalmology, Dermatology, Physiotherapy, Dentistry, Urology, Cardiology, Anesthesia offerings.

 

Teaching, Administration and support services comprising Catering, stores CSSD, Transport, Laundry, Maintenance and Mortuary, Medical Gas systems, Sewerage Treatment Plant, Landscaping, Roads, 500 Parking areas, Drainage, Transformers to support Electricity Supply and Back-up Power Generators, Telephone, Internet connectivity, Supply and Installation of Medical and Non-medical Equipment, 84 Staff Housing Accommodation for medical officers, nurses, technicians, overnight and emergency staff are all part of the package.
