The government announced plans to construct 600 Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compounds by the end of 2025.
Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Minister of State in Charge of Government Communications, announced during a press briefing.
“Each district is required to construct two new CHPS compounds this year,” he said.
“So if you put that together, we are talking about almost close to 600 CHPS compounds that will be put up this year alone — or at least work on them will start this year.”
He stressed that this initiative will significantly improve healthcare access, particularly in rural areas where medical facilities are limited.
The new CHPS compounds will provide essential health services, including maternal and child healthcare, vaccinations, and disease prevention programs. By bringing services closer to communities, the government aims to reduce healthcare disparities and enhance overall well-being.
Ofosu also noted that the project aligns with the government’s broader strategy to strengthen the healthcare system and ensure that all Ghanaians have access to quality medical care.
The initiative is expected to create jobs and boost local economies as construction progresses.
